Seminar series in Statistics and Data Science Talk - Olav Nikolai Breivik

Dear all,

The first talk within Seminar series in Statistics and Data Science for this semester will be held by Olav Nikolai Breivik, a senior research scientist at the Norwegian Computing Center!

The seminar will take place in Erling Svedrups plass (Niels Henrik Abel Hus, 8th floor), at 14:15, on Tuesday 14.09.2021.

Access to the seminar area will be granted for up to 20 UiO employees from the Department of Mathematics on the basis of the "first come first served" principle.

It is always possible to follow the talk on Zoom, using this link:

Title: Template Model Builder and fish stock assessment

Abstract: Template Model Builder (TMB) is an R-package that is well suited for performing fast inference with latent Gaussian models when the likelihood can be written as a three times differentiable function. TMB automatically differentiates the likelihood and utilizes Markov structures to efficiently integrate over latent variables with the Laplace approximation. In this seminar I will first introduce TMB and then elaborate a fish stock assessment model implemented with use of TMB that provides quota advices for approximately 25 different fish species in Europe.

Best regards,
Sven Ove Samuelsen & Aliaksandr Hubin
